Dr.Beekmann hails from the west coast. As a child in Vancouver, BC, she was passionate about horses and the equestrian sport. Her family raised puppies destined to become guide dogs for blind people. For Dr. Beekmann, becoming a veterinarian was always her first choice. She graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Edinburgh (UK) in 2019. Initially planning to become an equine veterinarian, she discovered her love for small animal medicine while doing clinical rotations during her last year of studies. This past year, Dr. Beekmann completed a small animal rotating internship at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic in downtown Toronto. While there, she developed a passion for cardiology. Dr. Beekmann is now completing a cardiology specialty internship at Mississaugua Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital with hopes to start a cardiology residency next July. Dr. Beekmann's research interests include the use of cardiac CT in cats and the use of global longitudinal strain by speckle tracking echocardiography in dogs as a measure of systolic function. Outside of veterinary medicine she still enjoys riding horses, but also loves hiking, canoeing, baking and playing Ultimate Frisbee.
