​Livestock Nutrition Summer Assistant

Livestock Nutrition Summer Assistant (Student Position) 

Location:
Southwestern Ontario, work from home
Contract Length: 4 months, May 1 – Aug 29, 2025
Salary: $4200.00/month

Summary/Purpose:
The primary focus of this role is to assist the Animal Nutrition Manager with key projects related to the development and promotion of Hybrid Rye as a feed ingredient for pigs and cattle across Canada. Projects include, but are not limited to, the development of on-farm trial protocols, literature reviews, technical content organization and development, and networking with livestock producers and the feed industry.

Key Functions:
  • Assist with the development of swine on-farm demonstration projects in Southwestern Ontario by working directly with demonstration farms to understand the farm structure, barn capabilities and desired feeding plan, and then develop protocols for data collection suitable for each farm.
  • Compile/organize all scientific literature related to the use of Hybrid Rye in swine, dairy and beef feeding systems.
  • Conduct detailed literature reviews on the use of Hybrid Rye for feeding beef and dairy cattle and extract key information on Hybrid Rye as livestock feed (swine, beef, dairy) that can be used by the sales and marketing team.
  • Assist in developing and updating technical materials.
  • Develop relationships with farmers and the feed industry across Canada.
Required Qualifications:
  • Current or recently graduated post-secondary student, with a focus on animal science.
  • Understanding of swine/beef/dairy farming in Ontario/Canada. • Strong computer skills, including knowledge on conducting thorough literature reviews.
  • Strong communication, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
  • Minimum G2 driver’s license and ability to travel around Southwestern Ontario.
​Work Environment: This role will be a remote (work from home) position based in Southwestern Ontario, reporting the Animal Nutrition Manager (Waterloo, ON). Travel to farms is expected. Ability to work in various environmental conditions (fields, barns, office) is required.
