FVC Time Capsule: Website & Marketing Officers

5/8/2025

Hey Future Vets, Sophia here.

I hope that all of you are enjoying your summer break! Although many of us have to work long hours or are gaining vet/animal experience, I hope that you all find some time to rest and recover from another busy school year. In this month’s article, we will be continuing the FVC’s Time Capsule series, this time interviewing our Website and Marketing Team. Moving forward, we will be changing this title to the “Website and Social Media Team”, starting in the 2025-26 school year. Ronit and Sahari are the faces behind FVC’s website and social media pages; they are constantly coming up with new ideas to keep our members (you!) engaged and aware of any upcoming events or opportunities. Our new and improved website would not be possible without their determination and creativity. Read on to learn more about them and the insight they have gained by being a part of the FVC executive team this year!
Sahari Ketheeswaran, Website and Marketing Officer
Ronit Kolet, Website and Marketing Officer
Introduce yourself! How long have you been an FVC executive?
Ronit: Hi everyone! My name is Ronit Kolet and I’m in my 4th and final year of the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Creative Writing program. I really enjoy watching movies/tv shows, hanging out with my friends, reading, and of course playing with my dog, Toffee! I have been part of the FVC executive team for three and a half years now after joining in the winter semester of my first year here at UoG.

Sahari: Hi! I’m Sahari, and I’m in my third year of Biomedical Science. I’ve been the Co-Website & Marketing Officer for the past year, and it’s been such an amazing experience! In my free time, I love being outdoors, playing with my dog, and watching Smallville!

Why did you want to join the FVC executive team?
Ronit: Being a part of the BSc Animal Biology program when first coming to the University of Guelph was a large part of why I wanted to get more involved with the pre-vet community. One of the main reasons I wanted to join the Future Vets Club in particular was because I really resonated with the club’s mission. I wanted to be responsible for encouraging and helping other pre-vets on their journeys to achieving their goal. Aiming to become a vet in a community that can be very competitive at times is stressful, and this is what motivated me to want to help the pre-vet community in becoming a more connected and supportive space for everyone.

Sahari: I joined the FVC exec team because, after spending the year before following them on Instagram and attending their events, I saw just how much of an impact they made in my life and the lives of other students. Their support and knowledge really helped future vets like me navigate this intimidating journey, and I wanted to be part of that—bringing pre-vets together and showing that we’re all in this together!

What has been the most rewarding part of being on the Website and Marketing team? Is there any particular memory you love?
Ronit: I think my favourite part of being on the Website & Marketing team has been using the role as a creative outlet. Over the past four years this position has been a way for me to take breaks from school work and focus on something I am passionate about through being creative. I think the most rewarding part of this position has been moving the club to a newly renovated website and finally launching our FVC discord. While they were not released until this year, these projects have been in the works for the past 2 or three years so finally getting to see them come to fruition and having our members positively react and actively engage with them has been extremely rewarding! I’m not sure what my favourite memory is, but I have loved going on fun trips with FVC and learning about all the possibilities and opportunities within the veterinary field that I may not have known about otherwise!

Sahari: The most rewarding part of my role has been seeing people get excited about our events through our posts and engaging with our weekly Guess The Animal stories on Fridays! It really highlights how connected we are as a community and just how big of a platform we have. Reaching over 2000 followers on our Instagram page was also an amazing achievement!

What do you think the FVC will be like in 10 years?
Ronit: I’m not sure what the FVC will be like in 10 years, that’s crazy to think about, but I hope that it’s definitely still around! It’s such a beneficial team for pre-vets across North America and I would like to think that in 10 years, the FVC would continue to expand beyond that. I think in that time the FVC will have even more events with guests from all around the world who are interested in spreading their knowledge and making connections. I hope the FVC could even find a way to host events where pre-vets can gain experience through hands-on animal volunteer days or something similar to provide even more accessible opportunities to those hoping to enter the field!

Sahari: In 10 years, I see the Future Vets Club further expanding our support outside of the University of Guelph — to reach other universities and high schools, collaborating with the community, and hosting larger scale events to support pre-vets across North America!

What do you think you personally will be like in 10 years?
Ronit: Thinking about myself in 10 years is even crazier than the last question haha! I’ll be 32 (LOL WHAT) and in 10 years I’ll be done with the vet tech program I’m going into next year and will have been working full time for a few years by then (I hope haha). Maybe I’ll also be done with vet school, and I think I'd want to still keep some part of the creative writing thing with me so I’d probably be working on a screenplay or something on the side just for fun! I’d want to travel a lot between now and then and maybe even live somewhere other than Canada for a while. I would probably have a dog and a cat and would maybe be fostering other animals in my free time too.

Sahari: In 10 years, I hope to be a veterinarian specializing in large animals, happy and with no regrets, constantly expanding my knowledge in veterinary medicine and expanding my reach to other countries around the world!

Do you have any advice for future vets?
Ronit: Some advice I have for future vets is to be patient with yourself and don’t worry about comparing your own timeline to others; recognize that everyone is on a very different path. I think that, at the end of the day, everyone in the pre-vet community generally has the same goal, so whether you get there in 5 years or 10, the passion for the work you want to do should be the thing that you focus on striving for.

Sahari: My biggest piece of advice? Be confident! It’s so easy to compare ourselves to others and feel like we’re not doing enough, but I truly believe that what’s meant to be will happen—and hard work always pays off. If you don’t get in on your first attempt, keep trying! Don’t let self-doubt hold you back from your passion, and remember, there’s more than one way to make a difference in the lives of animals!

Any advice for FVC’s future Website and Marketing team?
Ronit: To the future Website & Marketing team - my advice to you is to have fun with the role! The FVC is an undergraduate club that should be something you have a good time with and something that contributes to making your university experience better! Don’t be afraid to experiment with new ideas and ways to engage with our members to make our socials and website even better than it currently is!

Sahari: I know our future Website & Marketing Officer will bring even more creativity and fresh ideas! My advice? Don’t be afraid to experiment with unique ways to promote events and focus on building a strong, engaged community.

If you could put one thing in the ‘FVC Time Capsule,’ what would it be, and why?
Ronit: If I could put one thing in the ‘FVC Time Capsule’, I think it would be a screenshot of the old website just to see how different it looked before we switched over to a new site (and to see how much it has changed in the years since then)!

Sahari: If I could include something in a time capsule, it would definitely be the animal themed t-shirt the FVC exec team designed and painted for the Begging Bear statue on campus. That was such a fun experience, and it would be amazing to look back on all our doodles and artistic skills!
Thank you so much to Sahari and Ronit for taking the time to talk about their FVC experiences! I hope that you enjoyed and learned a little bit more about our exec team members. With FVC being such a large club, it may be difficult for members to form relationships with the executives, especially during our large events. In an attempt to bridge this gap, we devised the Time Capsule Series; we hope that these articles allow you to get to know our exec team better! Stay tuned for more Time Capsule articles in the coming months!

Sincerely,
Sophia Di Adamo, Junior Editor
