Summer Work-Study Position in Surgical Oncology Research

Responsibilities:
This position will involve maintaining a surgical oncology caselog and data collection for various research studies. You will gain experience with the medical records and imaging systems at the OVC and become familiar with how to review medical records and collect data.
As we try to establish a larger audience for clinical trials at the OVC, we plan to build new methods for patient recruitment into clinical trials. This position will be instrumental in the research to establish a social media presence specifically for OVC Clinical Trials and the Veterinary Medical Innovation platform. You will assist in the development of original content and brainstorm engagement strategies to promote the OVC clinical trials and Veterinary Medical Innovation brands.
Scheduling Details:
· 10 hours per week
· Hours based on students' availability
At this time, there will be no need for this position to be on-campus. It will be completely remote (work-from-home).
Coaching and Supervision Structure:
Coaching: Initial training will be done via TEAMS video meeting; we will also have individual weekly or bi-weekly meetings depending on the project.
Supervision: Regular communications via TEAMS chat, email. Shared databases and data management resources will allow for regular review of performance.
Anticipated Student Learning:
In this position, you will be part of an important team with the goal to improve healthcare in companion animals. Some of our trials are designed specifically to improve veterinary health but we also have trials that are translational to human research. Ultimately, our goal is to evaluate the effectiveness of different interventions such as medical devices, vaccines, diagnostic tests, surgical procedures, and treatments to inform the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of disease. You will learn about the different clinical trials at OVC and how this research can be applied to positively impact companion animals and human health.
Knowledge and Project managment - Gain experience with the medical records and imaging systems at the OVC and become familiar with how to review medical records and collect data. Priortization of tasks between clinical trials data and social media research.
Communication - Written and oral communication from keeping detailed records, working within the OVC HSC and sharing results with supervisor. A social media skillset will also be developed via written and visual communications.
Critical and Creative Thinking - Development of original content for social media engagment of OVC Clinical Trials and Veterinary Medical Innovation brands
Preferred Qualifications:
· Preference will be given to students in the DVM program and/or who have prior experience in a veterinary setting
· Interest in clinical trials
· Social media savvy; familiarity with multiple platforms and content creation via mojo or canva is an asset
· Strong aptitude with computers is necessary; previous experience with Stringsoft is ideal
· Excellent attention to detail
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Ability to work from home with secure internet access for remote access to databases
