Aspirations: Ever since I did a high school co-op placement at my current job at an animal hospital in my hometown, my world has revolved around everything animal and veterinary medicine related! I have always loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs and horses. I hope to attend OVC after my Bachelor of Science and become a veterinarian and care for both large and small animals, with an emphasis on oncology, holistic medicine, and surgery. I am excited to meet and connect with other FVC members this year experiencing the same journey to becoming a veterinarian. I am even more excited to help guide other future vets in my program on their path to OVC or other veterinarian colleges of interest!

Program and Year: 3rd Year Zoology

Pronouns: She/Her

Hey everyone! I’m Rachael and I’m in my third year of Zoology with a minor in Molecular Biology and Genetics. I’m hoping to attend OVC to pursue a career as a veterinarian! Growing up, I always had a love for animals and science. I knew I wanted to be a veterinarian even as a little kid; I remember researching vet schools, and when I learned about OVC I knew that’s where I wanted to be! My interests in the field of veterinary medicine include exotics, One Health, and pathology.

I’m so excited to be the Zoology Program Representative this year and look forward to getting to know you all! Don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions about OVC admissions, courses, experience, or anything else you want to know!

Aspirations: At my JK graduation they asked me what I wanted to be when I was older. Very proudly I wrote "Animal Doctor" as veterinarian was too big of a word for five-year-old me to accomplish. Since then, not only have I leaned to spell the word veterinarian, but I have begun my path to one day becoming one. I have been so grateful to have worked with both small and large animals and learned that my passion is within the equine community. I hope one day to improve access to equine veterinary medicine and give back to these animals which have given me so much. I wouldn't change my path for anything and I am always thankful to the veterinarians who encouraged me to enter Biomedical Sciences. I cannot wait to help other students who are in the same program as me reach and achieve their goals! Feel free to reach out, I am excited to meet you all!

Unlike most of us pre-vet students, I didn’t always know I wanted to be a vet! I started off my journey in Psychology and completed that degree, but halfway through I was struggling to see a future in it, and during that same time I experienced the very sudden loss of my first dog Abby which was devastating, but I was able to turn that hardship into a passion. The whole experience really stuck with me and got me thinking deeper about my future career; it sparked my love for veterinary medicine. Since then, I have done everything I can to get me to this point of applying to OVC this year! I’m mostly interested in small animal, but I’m keeping an open mind throughout the process and so excited for what’s to come!

Program and Year: 5th Year Animal Science

Pronouns: She/Her

Hey everyone! My name is Shahd Abu-Alhaija (she/her) and I’m a 5th year Bsc. Agr. student with a focus on animal science. My diverse experience working with different animals has really strengthened my desire to be a veterinarian and I try to expand this experience whenever I can! I have been an FVC general member since my first year at UoG and I keep coming back because of how much I love the team and the support provided, and I really hope to be able to give back as the Animal Science program representative! Although my current goal is to enter the OVC, my long-term goal is to work with and help animals however I can, and I am particularly interested in zoo medicine!
