Summer Lambing Job - Asphodel Sheep Company

Asphodel Sheep Company is a large scale Commercial Sheep Farm located just outside of Norwood Ontario. We specialize in high quality, high health breeding stock which we sell all across Canada. We have a flock of 700 Crossbred OLIBS Maternal Composite ewes and 50 Suffolk/Texel Cross Terminal ewes. We were a recipient of a 2023 Peterborough and Kawartha Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award for Farm Family of The Year.

​We have an opening on our team for a temporary full time position. The position would run from April thru August 2024. Start and end dates are negotiable.

The duties of this position would be to support our team for the duration of our spring/summer lambing, planting and harvest season including:
  • operation of artificial rearing facility.
  • operating and cleaning of automatic milk machines
  • monitoring health and progress of up to 300 artificially reared lambs
  • assisting with moving, turn in and turn out of ewes and lambs
  • assisting ewes with lambing
  • cleaning and bedding of lambing pens
  • feeding and moving of sheep and lambs
  • setup and moving of electronet fences for rotational grazing paddocks
  • safe operation of Gator and 4 wheeler

Candidate will be provided with an on site private 1 bedroom apartment, separate from our family dwelling. The apartment is complete with kitchen, laundry facilities and internet. This will be part of the compensation package for the job. There will also be a weekly salary that will be negotiated with the candidate. Some weekends will be required but weekdays will be given as days off to maintain a 5 day work week.
